DSG ORGANIZATION

The Deer Specialist Group is a unit of the Species Survival Commission of the IUCN or World Conservation Union. Its members are professional and amateur biologists dedicated to the conservation of deer. The costs of operating the DSG are born by the parent organizations of its officers and its membership. The activities of the group are carried out in the spirit of volunteerism and without financial compensation. The Deer Specialist Group (DSG) has 125 members from 28 countries. Its members are professional and amateur biologists dedicated to the conservation of deer. Forty percent of the members come from developing countries. The DSG is organized into regional sections headed by Coordinators who are experienced practitioners in the ecology and natural history of their area. Regional coordinators serve as conduits of information to the Chair, solicit contributions to the annual newsletter, and implement conservation projects on threatened species of deer and the habitats they depend upon for their survival. Each is involved in a number of deer conservation projects.
